Call it the fall out from a “very messy divorce.”
The home of the Democratic candidate to fill Congressman-elect Morgan Griffith’s state House seat was foreclosed on and sold at public auction last year.
Ginger Mumpower is primarily known for Ginger’s Jewelry, a chain of jewelry stores she first opened in 1982. The 50-year-old Democrat was nominated last month to run against Republican Greg Habeeb in the 8th District, which includes all of Salem and parts of Roanoke County.
In 2003, Mumpower and her now ex-husband, Roger Mumpower, purchased a house in Roanoke for $217,250. The home was sold in June 2009 in a trustee’s sale, according to a public notice published by the Roanoke Times.
Mumpower was also ordered in 2008 by a Roanoke County General District judge to pay $4,908 to Hidden Valley Country Club in Salem. During a membership that lasted less than a year, Mumpower was always delinquent in her payments, said Mary Harper, an accountant for the club.
Mumpower offered a short statement on Monday, saying she would respond further later in the week.
“Both are related to a very messy divorce I went through,” Mumpower said. “There were some difficult situations.”
Mumpower served one term on the Radford City Council during her 20s. She’s also served as chairwoman of Radford’s Democratic committee. She has a son, Spencer, and a daughter, Paris.
The district has been represented by Griffith, a Republican, since 1994.
The Democratic Party of Virginia and the Roanoke County Democratic Committee did not respond to requests for comment.

“The home was sold in June 2009 in a trustee’s sale”.
So the house was sold in June 2009, and it is now December 2010. Huh, that’s weird… because I’m pretty sure she and her children are still living in that house and have it up for sale.

Her home was not sold at auction. Her nasty ex was supposed to be making the payments as part of a divorce settlement and was not doing so. She had to pick up the tab, as usual, which she did. The house wasn’t sold and yes, she still lives there. Her disgusting ex embezzeled $500,000 from the business she started before she married the scum and was cheating on her with one of her employees while he cooked the books to boot. Then he fails to make the house payments and support his own kids. Then he started taking his girlfriend to Hidden Valley and ran up thousands of dollars on a golf tab. She doesn’t even play golf. She had taken him off the membership. Thus, the bill was the fault of the club for letting him in after she took him off membership. She refused to pay it as she did not authorize it and the club sued her. So, they got a judgement for an illigitimate bill, and once again she picked up the tab for the bug loser. Perhaps you people should check your facts before printing these blatent lies.

I think OD Watchdog is either mistaken or intentionally defaming Ms. Mumpower: according to the Roanoke County GIS website (link pasted in below), the home owned by Ginger and Roger Mumpower (the only real estate listed under her name in Roanoke County, and none were revealed in a search in Roanoke City) last had a transfer of ownership in 1994, and the current owners are listed as the Mumpowers. No such trustees sale is recorded. http://eservices.roanokecountyva.gov/engineer/re/all2.asp?ParcelId=086.01-01-01.16-0000&CardNumber=001
